Once upon a time, there lived a being who possessed an unusual gift of healing — a kind of ability to ease pain, quiet suffering, and, in general, make the life of each person a little lighter and more joyful. The being possessed an extraordinarily strong sense of compassion and empathy, and was deeply receptive to the beauty of the world, to its mysteries and its laws. It was a very joyful, smiling being, with a kind heart. And yet there were other shades to its depth: it was unbearably painful for it to watch others suffer, for in such moments it felt those emotions literally within itself, as though everything that was happening to them were happening to it as well.
Possessing this special gift, it was always more than willing to help everyone it encountered along its winding path. It travelled far and wide, wandering through the strangest and most wondrous places the world had to offer. Rumours of its miraculous abilities spread as swiftly as the wildest, most unruly wind, and so the being had no shortage of work. Many longed to bask in its light: there was something serene, soothing, and homelike about it — like a home that many had never known.
Though it knew that each person was ultimately responsible for their own happiness, and that many of those who came seeking its light chose to keep worrying at their wounds, sometimes deliberately deepening their pain, all for the sake of having the being turn its warm gaze upon them, still nothing could keep it from being ready to extend a helping hand in a moment of difficulty. Otherwise, what was it here for?
And so it did this again and again: opening its great heart and drawing from within it a light of unimaginable radiance, given to it by the Spirit. Many came, warmed themselves in the glow of its heart, and departed carrying a measure of relief. For a time, they truly felt as though the storm within had quieted. And so they went on their way, again and again, never imagining that another’s light could not solve their problems for them.

Day after day, year after year, the being wandered through the world, generously offering its light to everyone it met.
One day, looking inward, it began to notice that almost no light remained within it, and that with each passing day it was growing more and more tired. Strength was leaving its body, until continuing along its path became increasingly unbearable. Each morning it would “gather itself together piece by piece,” and no matter how much its body ached, it continued onward, hoping to recover. The being believed with all its soul that it was fulfilling a special mission, and that the Spirit would not abandon it. All of this seemed merely a trial, a tempering of its strength, and so it continued to give away its final sparks of light, never noticing that they were truly no longer being replenished.
Then came the day when, after yet another exhausting day, the being could no longer rise to its feet. Drained of all strength, it began to grow angry with the Spirit, asking what it had done wrong. Had it not followed the Spirit’s messages? Had it not carried light into the world? Yet no answer came, and the being felt abandoned, forsaken by its only friend, the eternal force of its sacred heart.
How could this be? Why?
When the inner agony finally ended, a long, long sorrow descended, followed by emptiness — like a black hole that had swallowed the last rays of hope. Then it accepted its fate and sank into sleep, waiting for the Spirit simply to take it back, rebellious and no longer needed. In its sleep there were no images, no one telling it stories — it simply contemplated the dense night, the darkness enveloping everything around it.
But what was that?
It began to distinguish, within that deafening silence, certain sounds. It was the voice of the Spirit, quietly, almost in a whisper, speaking what the being already knew deep within itself. It said:
— I have not abandoned you. You simply lost your way upon the path you had chosen. You stopped caring for yourself, for your own well-being, thinking only of the happiness of other beings. I had to step aside, hoping that you would understand…
The voice gradually faded and dissolved into the darkness; many of the words ceased to be discernible. Then there was complete silence.
For some time longer, the being drifted somewhere in the deepest depths of that darkness, until something, with a powerful wrench, thrust it out of it — and it awoke.
It could not be said that it felt better, but deep within, a tiny, barely perceptible hope of salvation had appeared. Gathering its final strength, it asked the Spirit, in a weak yet pure voice, full of sincere intention, to open its eyes to the truth, promising that it would listen, whatever the Spirit’s will might be.
And as happens with those who, with all their heart and purity of intention, seek a way out of their misfortune, an answer came: it was a path, appearing as if by magic before the being’s eyes.
At the sight of it, something stirred within. It gave the necessary impulse to rise and follow the mysterious trail.
After taking several steps along it, walking through a dense fog and seeing nothing but the path beneath its feet, a landscape previously unseen by the being slowly began to emerge before its eyes. There, at the end of the path, a river flowed, and at its foot stood a tiny, tiny little house.
The closer the being came, the more strongly and distinctly it felt warmth, comfort, and love — long forgotten, and seemingly lost forever. It was as though the dwelling possessed some special aura. Something familiar and peaceful, something it wanted to call Home. These sensations enveloped it completely.
And now, tears in its eyes, it approached the mysterious dwelling.
It seemed to it that this was the end — the end of its long journey. The Spirit had heard its pleas and was now ready to take it into its embrace, granting it peace and relief forever.
And yet it was not certain. And so curiosity and impatience tormented it, urging it to discover what, after all, awaited it on the other side of the path.
When it came right up to the entrance, the fog finally dispersed.
It was a small wooden door, covered with patterns and engravings unlike anything it had ever seen, written in some mysterious language, glowing with a radiant white light.
Placing its hand upon the door handle, it turned it, and the door opened.

When the being stepped inside, it simply could not believe its eyes.
The sight unfolding before it left it utterly speechless.
Beside a small fireplace with a living flame, seated in a comfortable rocking chair, was another being — the same kind of being as itself.
It was the first time in its life that it had ever seen another like itself.
The only difference, perhaps, was their age. The other was older, yet there emanated from him a warm, loving, benevolent energy that our wanderer had previously been able to feel only deep within itself — and even then, only back when it still could.
And all this time, it had believed itself to be completely alone in this vast world.
It might have spent a long while contemplating what it was seeing and what it could possibly mean. But the inhabitant of the little house sensed the presence of his guest and broke the silence, speaking in a deep voice:
— Come in, dear one. I have been waiting for you.
With a gentle movement of his hand, he indicated the chair opposite him, as though inviting the wanderer to sit beside him.
For the still-weary and utterly exhausted traveller, the chair beckoned with its comfort, promising rest and consolation. Without hesitation, it practically collapsed into it, without uttering a single word.
Closing its eyes, it caught its breath.
Gradually, exhaustion gave way to a warm, benevolent energy — an energy that had seemed lost forever. It began to flow once more into its heart, filling it completely.
And so it sat for some time, bathing in the light.
Meanwhile, the older being, without saying another word, patiently waited, gazing into the sparkling fire.
After a while, the wanderer gently opened its eyes, and a smile spread across its face.
It was so happy, so filled with wondrous love, that words were simply unnecessary. No matter how much it wished to say something — anything — in gratitude, nothing would come.
Nor was there any need. The wise inhabitant of the house felt everything, for he was just as receptive as his young friend.
Noticing the profound change in its state, he turned his head toward the being and, for the first time, truly looked at it. There was so much love and compassion in those eyes, but also something else — a serene, untamed strength.
The being felt a charge of lightning race through its entire body, as though it had been connected directly to the source itself.
— Who do you think I am? — he asked.
The being looked its companion up and down, and answered:
— Are you me? — it asked uncertainly. — Honestly, I do not know. I have never met another like myself. I thought I was alone. But there is something different about you. There is such light and love emanating from you, as though you yourself were the pure embodiment of the Spirit. As though you were the Spirit.
It hesitated, afraid of sounding foolish.
— Wait… you… are you the Spirit?
— Yes and no — the wise inhabitant said gently. — No more than you are.
The answer clearly puzzled the being. I am the Spirit? That cannot be, it thought to itself.
— Listen to me carefully — the sage continued, as though answering its thoughts. — I, like you, am a part of it. Together, we form a whole, just as every drop creates an ocean, and every thread creates a fabric. We are part of a single pattern. And yet we are still ourselves: each with its own substance and its own peculiarities.
You are right that we are alike. In truth, we do share one mission.
But you, in carrying out yours, completely spent your light. You were so often consumed by the desire to heal the world that you entirely forgot yourself.
You gave your light indiscriminately, forgetting one simple truth: true healing comes to each of us from within.
So long as others remain blind to their own wounds, your light will never heal them completely, because not everyone who crosses your path is ready to receive healing.
It must be their choice — to end the cycle of suffering.
That is why it is so important for you to begin discerning who comes merely to “plug” a wound while remaining lost in the fog of illusion, and who is truly ready.
In other words, your mission is to learn to distinguish the voice of the Spirit from the noise of other people’s expectations and desires.
If you remain in harmony with it, you will have more than enough energy and inner light, and helping others will no longer exhaust you, because everything that is most true and necessary will come through you, rather than from you.
Learn to distinguish your feelings from those of others.
Learn not to interfere.
Learn to honour each person’s path, no matter how tangled it may seem.
The Spirit is benevolent and generous. Yet if you forget yourself, wasting your own strength, it will have to do what it has done now — step aside.
You are infinitely loved by it.
Do you understand?
The being understood everything. And yet this profound explanation gave rise to a whole series of questions, which it immediately shared:
— But then why was I given this gift, if I must be so selective in offering help? Is it not meant for everyone? Does the Spirit not want everyone to be able to heal their wounds with healing light? Am I not here for this?
The questions poured forth like a river. After all, it was not often that the being had such a wise companion sitting before it. It seemed as though he knew everything.
— You are right. Your gift is meant for everyone, but not in the way you think.
You see, everything begins with you yourself — with your well-being.
You are not responsible for the entire world.
You do not need to give your light to everyone who asks for it.
You simply need to shine from your heart.
And whoever is receptive will find you, and you will feel what needs to be done.
And whoever is not yet ready will nevertheless be touched by the radiance of your heart. Like a seed, it will take root within them, and when the right hour comes, it will bring forth the healing that is needed.
For your part, this will require no effort at all, because it is the Spirit that will place everything necessary within them.
How do you think you came here?
Did you not form a pure intention?
Did you not stop fighting and simply surrender to trust?
The Spirit brought you to me when you were ready.
Do you see?
And suddenly, everything became clear to the being.
It was as though the last remnants of a dense veil had fallen from its eyes, and it saw.
It saw the magnificence of the being seated before it. A being just like itself.
For now they both radiated the divine, rose-golden light of truth.
They were one.
And the Spirit was here — in their hearts, and in their eyes sparkling with love.
Without any doubt, it was here, just as it had always been.
It was only that the being itself had previously lived within illusion, and simply could not see how the Spirit had walked beside it, hand in hand, step by step, every moment.
It also understood that it had never truly been alone. It was infinitely connected to other beings like itself, even if it had never met most of them. Just as it was woven together with the Spirit, walking beside it like the very best and most devoted friend.
The being felt so well, so joyful.
It seemed that it too had now changed: an indescribably beautiful light emanated from it, and its heart had become serene and warm.
With all its heart, it thanked its new friend.
It said farewell and set out once more upon the path — from that moment on seeing the strength of the Spirit in everything that surrounded it, following the voice of truth as it sounded like a pure melody within its vast and boundless heart.
