Plein Air Sketches

[ THE PRACTICE OF PRESENCE ]

an atelier for slowing down, observing, and cultivating a sensitive way of seeing. Through observational drawing, we refine our gesture and our way of seeing, while exploring line, form, and light. A mindful practice for deepening our sensitivity and discovering the poetry of the world around us.

ABOUT

To step into the practice of drawing outdoors is to do far more than trace lines on a page. It is to learn how to see, to feel, and to reconnect with the world and with ourselves.

Through observational drawing, we explore line, form, light, and composition, gradually refining our way of seeing and learning to observe with greater clarity. Drawing from life trains the eye, helps us find our own gesture, enriches our visual memory, and builds the sensitive yet solid foundation from which an artistic practice can unfold.

Whether facing the ocean or sitting within a landscape, we take the time to truly look. Proportions, movements, shifting light, and details that usually escape us become something to draw. The eye lingers, the hand searches, and what once seemed ordinary slowly begins to reveal its beauty.

Something more subtle begins to emerge. As we draw, we naturally slow down. Our attention gathers, our sensations become more refined, and we enter a particular state of presence — one in which we no longer simply look at the world, but begin to truly see it.

These ateliers are nourished by my own artistic practice and by more than twelve years of international experience working alongside artists and creatives. I see drawing as a path that moves in two directions at once: learning to look at the world with greater precision, while gradually discovering a way of seeing that is uniquely our own.

Because every drawing is also a meeting — a moment when the world reveals itself differently, through the unique gaze of the person who draws it.

With love, and see you soon,

Kristina Mariinskaya

Kristina Mariinskaya is an artist, writer, and curator. She lives and works in Biarritz.
In her artistic and curatorial practice, she explores what she calls the poetic vision — the ability to perceive a hidden, often subtle beauty that reveals itself in simple things, in silence, and in everyday life.

For more than twelve years, she has also worked alongside artists and creatives, helping them develop their way of seeing and their practice, while drawing on her own artistic research and international experience.

It is from this meeting between practice, observation, and attentiveness to the world that Sketches of Presence was born.

For Kristina, art is a path of self-knowledge and an opening of the gaze — an invitation to perceive the world with greater subtlety, sensitivity, and truth..

3: REVEALING PRESENCE
Drawing also opens a space of attention where we slow down, our sensations become more refined, and our relationship with the world deepens. A way of becoming more present to what we are looking at — and to ourselves
2: ARTISTIC GUIDANCE
Through experimentation and observation, each person gradually discovers what is uniquely their own: a way of choosing, interpreting, and translating what they see. An artistic language cannot be forced — it reveals itself through practice
1: DEVELOPING THE GAZE
Drawing from life gradually refines your hand, your eye, and your perception. By observing the world as it is, you learn to understand more deeply what you see and to build the foundations of your own artistic language

WHAT DO YOU RECEIVE ?
